All New Batman The Brave and the Bold #10

What at first appears to be a simple cover for a “kids” book becomes richer with each glance.  There is so much going on with the villains.  From the snears to the falling money, and especially the way Clock King’s face balances with the clock tower.  Then there is the sparse blue of the opposing side.  It draws your attention into the scared innocence hanging in the balance.

Batgirl #24 and Batman 80 Page Giant 2011

When I was younger my grandmother had this animal puzzle.  Each piece was cut in the shape of that specific animal and somehow they all connected to each other.  I’m guessing it was to symbolize that we are all part of a greater interconnected world.  That’s what I think of when I see these covers.

Batman and Robin #26

If any aspiring artist asks why he/she should bother taking an art history class, show them this cover.  I’m in awe even though I’m sure I’m only getting half the references.

Deadpool #41

Usually I don’t associate the Merc with the Mouth with Dr. Strangelove, and yet here we are.  Also nice subliminal messaging in the sulci and gyri of the cerebral cortex.

Detective Comics #881

Batman no!  By removing his ruby quartz glasses you have doomed us all!  What’s that?  Oh, that’s not Cyclops?  My bad.  I thought Scott Summers may have somehow joined the DC’s new 52.

Flashpoint Deadman and the Flying Graysons #3

Admit it.  If you saw this cover at a flea market, price would not be a hindrance.  Breathtaking piece.  Kudos for the classic Nightwing costume too.

New Avengers #15 (Fear Itself)

When things get nuts, call on Squirrel Girl.  To be serious though, the preview pages for this blew my mind.  I cant look forward to it any more if I were standing on my Tippy Toes.

Red Robin #26

Why does Captain Boomerang only mean something in his lowest moments? Very striking cover.

Red Spike #4

Coming to a summer blockbuster near you! A new iconic image (no pun intended) and a great story underneath.

Spider-Island Deadly Foes #1

You’re tearing me apart Lisa!

Ultimate Fallout #5

Its not a bad cover upon first glance.  But on first glance you ignore the red background.  Then the true image is revealed and this becomes a ruined cover because you tore the book open needing to know what happens.

The Unwritten #28

Repeat my thoughts on the Deadman book.  Minus the Nightwing cameo.  I think.

Veronica #208 (Veronica presents Kevin Keller #2) – both covers.

We all know the significance of this character?  OK, good.  Two points then.  One, as someone named Kevin, that t-shirt is phenomenal and is now at the top of my Christmas list.  Two, the military cover.  In light of all the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” debacle, this is a ballsy cover for the Archie brand.  When was the last time you saw the words ballsy and Archie in the same sentence?  Well, besides that “To Riverdale and Back Again” movie.
