Smarked for Death – WWE Superstars 5/5/11.

The wrestling show that features wrestling begins!

Trent Barretta vs. Jey Uso (with Jimmy Uso)

Trent has new theme music!  When did that happen?  Jey and his brother just got traded to Smackdown, so it doesn’t make a lot of sense to put them into a singles match.  I really think that when Trent is eventually released he’ll become an indy star.  He might not be clicking in WWE but there is nothing but talent and potential with Barretta.  The Usos are still so green and their futures can go either way.  Jey shoves Trent off the top rope and to the floor.  A well placed cameraman catches all the action from below and that angle makes this look like the most devastating fall in years.  Jey gets a running start and slams Trent in between the force that is an Uso and the object that is the corner.  Its amazing that Barretta doesn’t lose after that.  Trent hits a spinning moonsault off the top but Jey is in the wrong position for it to be effective.  All credit to Trent there for seeing Jey is not in position and adjusting the move in mid air.  Jey hits the lifted Samoan drop, called the Ally Us (like oos).  Its a great move, but still not enough.  Trent looks to be losing the match but he pulls out a Dudebuster DDT for the pin.

Trent is fast becoming one of the best kept secrets in WWE.

Melina vs. Beth Phoenix

Both of these women are now on Raw.  I don’t know when was the last time I saw Phoenix in a match.  Thankfully, both of these women know how to wrestle.  I’ll also predict as this is Superstars that Kharma does not appear during this match.  Melina goes psycho when she breaks a nail off on Beth.  That is such a small thing, but it should really be done more often.  Melina should go crazy on opponents any time something happens to her body.  It could be a broken nail, bruise, messed up hair.  Crazy works for Melina as she is controlling the much stronger Beth.  Phoenix finally starts to get in some moves and her strength makes the atomic drop look like a finisher.  That hasn’t happened in half a century.  Melina misses a kick and is stuck in a split.  Beth dead lifts Melina up for the Glam Slam.  Pretty good match that would mean something if WWE was doing anything with the Divas right now.

Evan Bourne vs. Zack Ryder

Where is Ryder’s Internet championship belt?!  It makes sense for Zack to be featured on this now online only show.  Great ground work by both guys, which should show all the indy talent that you need those skills first.  Evan hits his first Steamboat inspired armdrag of the night.  Ryder and Bourne trade headlock control as each man tries to figure out an advantage.  Wow.  Evan attempts a hurracanrana on the floor but Zack stuffs it and drills Bourne into the barrier wall.  Zack hits a Broski Boot and Josh calls it a humdinger.  Josh really needs to not take everything from Gordon Solie.  Ryder comes off the ropes but Evan catches him with a back kick.  It was almost enough to put away the internet darling but not quite.  Evan starts to build up momentum and nothing Ryder does can stop the feet of Bourne.  Ryder takes one kick too many and Evan climbs the ropes to hit Air Bourne for the pin.

Even in loss, Zack Ryder had a great match.
