Your Night of Champions review!
I’m skipping the Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston match. They’ve wrestled each other how many times recently? There is no need for this match to be on PPV. Dolph wins and keeps the Intercontinental title. Vickie and Kaitlyn argue some more. PPV value $0.
Saying that, I agree that CM Punk vs. Big Show has been done multiple times lately. However, every match they have is different. There is always a new angle to their matches that makes each one a separate and memorable match in itself. It was also a quick match, with Show pinning Punk after a massive punch. A fun and quick match with Punk very nearly playing the face in his hometown of Chicago. I will be happy if this is the end of this feud though. PPV Value $2 (for Second City).
An early front runner for feud of the year is Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz. This was the match that Bryan needed. An incredible match, well fought, with no one person getting an advantage. Add in a loud and smart wrestling crowd. This is the match of the night and maybe one of the best of the year. Not only does Bryan show off his skills which makes him, arguably, the best in the world. But the Miz shows just how far he’s come since joining WWE. He looks like a world champion every moment he’s in the ring now. The crowd has accepted him as a future champion. However, from the moment Daniel Bryan first appeared on NXT the WWE Universe was behind him. Fantastic match. PPV Value: $10. Total PPV $12
Divas Unification Title match. Melina vs. Michelle McCool. Or, how WWE can make the world’s most beautiful women, boring. For anyone who couldn’t see this coming: McCool and Layla pretended to be fighting so they could surprise attack Melina. Michelle wins, becoming a 3 time “first” champion (first Divas champions, first woman to hold both titles, first unified champion). To all up and coming women wrestlers, here’s some advice. Fuck a world champion. Michelle has been in WWE, what 5 years? I’ve yet to find a reason to care about her. Nor do I think there are hordes of McCool fans out there. For the ladies, I believe Sheamus is still single. PPV Value a single. Total value $13
Kane vs. Undertaker happened again. But this time the Undertaker is weakened! And Kane is in the middle of his biggest push ever. There is still no reason to care. Kane wins. PPV Value $0. Total value $13.
Tag team turmoil match. The Hart Dynasty defends the unified tag team championship for the first time since being handed the titles. They defend it against a series of teams who have been given no reason to have a title shot nor a reason to be on PPV. The Harts, who should be booked as the greatest tag team in WWE of the decade, lose their titles to the green Usos. The Usos also defeat Santino and Vladimir. Mark Henry and Evan Bourne are the next challengers. Lawler doesn’t want to call them a “thrown together team”. I wouldn’t know what else to call them. The two action figures that no one else is playing with? Thrown Together beats the Usos. The next team is Dashing Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre, who defeated the Harts last week on Smackdown. Logically, it would make sense for the Harts to have survived facing the other teams. Then Drew and Cody come out, and we build drama. The team that defeated the Harts last week is now their final opponents. Can the Harts beat a team in their weakened state, that they couldn’t beat when they were fresh? It would be a dramatic and interesting match story. But no. The Harts were out 3 teams ago. Cody and Drew win and become new champions. PPV Value: I threw together 98 cents. Plus my two cents for this match. Still makes more sense than throwing together Mark Henry and Evan Bourne. Overall value: $14.
6 Pack Challenge match. Chris Jericho is eliminated in the first minute of the match. For one of the greatest champions of all time, it would be nice for Jericho to get an ounce of respect. Sure, he’s leaving WWE (again). But he’s one of the best wrestlers ever, and deserves better.
John Cena with a dropkick! Everyone is shocked, the wrestlers and announcers included. The booking gives us Cena and Orton alone in the ring. Because that is something new and fresh. Edge is eliminated, I realize I’ve zoned out on this match. I’ve known for weeks that Randy Orton will win this match. I would love to be wrong, but the Super-Orton booking of the last few weeks only supports this feeling. Nexus comes down, distracting everyone. Wade hits Wasteland on Cena for the pin. Now this is interesting. Barrett has been getting pins on people he shouldn’t be getting them on. And just as quickly, Super-Orton pins Wade Barrett. I’ll predict Barrett gets the December title win that’s becoming a WWE tradition (Jeff Hardy in 2008, Sheamus in 2009). Super-Orton hits yet another RKO, this time on Sheamus and Orton wins the title yet again. PPV Value: $0 (I saw this already on Raw).
Overall value of the show is $13 which is about the price its going to be at Wal-Mart in a month.
The last few weeks of TV have made this show nothing but predictable. Now there’s another show (Hell in a Cell) in 2 weeks, and Raw is taping two episodes tonight. The only surprise left is seeing when Miz cashes in the briefcase. Hopefully the Smackdown move to Syfy will make things more interesting next month.
