Walking Dead 75 Review.

A super sized issue!  And only 2 weeks after the last!

What happened:

Rick discovers that the father of the kid Carl had a fight with is abusing his family.  Rick asks Douglas what to do about this.  Douglas tells Rick that they know this man abuses his family but they let it slide because he’s the main doctor of the community.  Rick won’t let it slide though.  Rick attacks the man, and pulls out his gun.  Great, now the community thinks Rick is crazy (maybe correctly) and they know he has a weapon.  Rick is brought down by an unknown attacker.  It turns out to be Michonne, who then takes away Rick’s gun.

In the sub plot, Glenn and Heath are still on the search for medicine.  They watch some other survivors push one of their own into the zombie horde.  Heath shoots a zombie and saves Glenn’s life.

After the letters page the story continues!  In a joke, a promise but a joke still, the Walking Dead crew fight the true menace, aliens!  All in living color!

Review:

We know Rick is crazy.  There’s no way for any of these characters to live this long without becoming a little fucked up.  He’s lost so much along the way that everything else may be taken away in this one spot.  If Rick loses his sanity then everything, his companions, his authority, Carl — they’ll all be gone.  There may be no way to come back from this.  Much like a wild dog, someone might have to put Rick down.  Hello issue 100.  And it will be Carl too.  Maybe we’ve all been wrong.  Maybe all this time Walking Dead has been Carl’s story.

An alternate cover for this issue was a throwback to issue one.  It makes longtime readers think of who Rick used to be.  All of Rick’s actions, over 75 issues, are natural.  There’s no need to debate or question them, the readers accept these decisions as we follow Rick along.  But to compare issue 1 and issue 75.  That Rick would not commit the acts that this Rick does.  But Robert Kirkman has changed this character so slowly it wasn’t noticeable.  Crazy good.

Oh, and the extra aliens scene.  Fucking great.  Including the return of the Governor!  With two more unforgivable acts.  One with Michonne, and the other with Lori.  Yeah.  That Lori.  Intense.  Glad its only a joke.
