From what I can learn, Tribune Media Services owns and publishes LOA. Tribune announced in May that the strip would end due to its low circulation numbers. Annie was only running in about 20 newspapers.
Annie is seen by much of the world as the little curly haired ginger who sings. However the comic strip is more like the Phantom. Annie and crew encounter, are harmed by, and then defeat various thugs and goons. Which sounds awesome, and had I known that I may have read the comic.
Steve Tippie, of Tribune, says Annie will continue in other forms (graphic novels and such).
